This project was especially
fascinating because the system
bottleneck was not a toll plaza,
but rather a single intersection
at the discharge end of the
tunnel. A redesign of the
traffic movements at this
intersection had a dramatic
beneficial impact --- so much so
that computer visualization was
vital for demonstration.
Alternatives were suggested by
the community board and tested
by the same means. The
overall effort not only
identified an effective
solution, but encouraged
participation and buy-in. A
3D
visualization of simulated
traffic operations was prepared
for these alternatives and
presented to the local Manhattan
community board. |
