Large Truck Crash Causation Study (LTCCS)
KLD researchers collected data on the primary and secondary
causes of serious large truck crashes. This first-ever
national research study of large truck crash causation was
sponsored by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration
(FMCSA), cooperatively with the NHTSA. This data is being used to
determine crash causation trends which will ultimately lead
to the implementation of effective highway safety
countermeasures.
Tire Pressure System Study (TPSS)
KLD researchers collected data for the TPSS.
In response to Section 12 of the TREAD Act, NHTSA’s National
Center for Statistics and Analysis (NCSA) conducted the Tire
Pressure Special Study (TPSS). The TPSS was designed to
assess to what extent passenger vehicle operators are aware
of the recommended tire pressures for their vehicles, the
frequency and the means they use to measure their tire
pressure, and how significantly actual measured tire
pressure differs from the manufacturer’s recommended tire
pressure.
Pedestrian Crash Data Study (PCDS)
KLD researchers collected on-scene crash data.
The data is being used by government scientists and
engineers to understand the causes and resulting injuries in
pedestrian crashes, and help develop effective
countermeasures. |
Redesigned Air Bag Special Study
(RABSS)
KLD researchers collected data on high interest crashes (children, out
of position occupants, high damage severity, and multiple injured
occupants), involving vehicles equipped with a redesigned air bag in
which the air bag has deployed.
Speeding and other Unsafe Driver
Actions (SUDA)
KLD researchers
conducted in-depth interviews of crash victims. This data is being used
to analyze crash causal factors in targeted areas of special interest.
Crash-Injury and Engineering Network (CIREN)
KLD collected in-depth traffic crash data
under a consulting arrangement with the Harborview Injury Prevention and
Research Center. CIREN is a national network that brings together
researchers from the fields of medicine and engineering to work on the
prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation of motor vehicle crash
injuries.
Trauma Medical Center of Thomas Jefferson
University Hospital, PA.
KLD conducted a special
project focused on occupants of passenger cars, light
trucks, utility vehicles, and vans who sustained serious injuries. KLD developed project
goals, coordinated the various personnel needed from each department, trained and
supervised data collection and administrative personnel, tabulated data, and prepared
progress, financial and technical reports. |
